Harry Potter

Harry James Potter (born 31 July, 1980) is the hero of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. Since the release of the first novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (retitled Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the United States) in 1997, the books have achieved massive fame worldwide, spawning films, video games and an assortment of merchandise. In 2002 Harry Potter was voted No. 85 among the 100 best fictional characters by Book magazine.

Being typically raised in the alien environment of the Dursleys household with no love for him or for magic, Harry's core desire is to be among those who care for him and for loved ones to be safe from harm. This, he realizes as the series unfolds, is unfeasible while Voldemort is alive. Curious about the wizarding world, he frequently takes on adventures that put him at risk; but he more often than not tries to influence his friends not to endanger themselves by accompanying him. Nonetheless, Harry's most faithful friends refuse to let him face challenges alone. Harry Potter is a very composed, introverted boy who hates being the center of attention, holds a lot inside, and often is silently listening to others talk when he's in a group. At various times through the series, Harry has shown the capability to remain sensible, maintain his composure, and perform advanced achievements of wizardry during moments of extreme crisis.

Harry Potter is trustworthy to his friends and expects loyalty in return, even though this feature often stops Harry from being objective. Harry's spiritual relationship with his closest female friend, Hermione Granger, is occasionally misinterpreted by some characters. In an Interview J.K. Rowling revealed that Harry sees Ron and Hermione as his adopted siblings. In another interview Rowling clearly stated, "We now know that it's Ron and Hermione." By the end of Half-Blood Prince, however, Harry Potter breaks off from Ginny so that Voldemort would not target her as a means of getting to or hurting Harry himself. Although Ginny accepts this, she admitted that she by no means gave up on him. Harry is contented that she learned to be herself around him, allowing him to get to know the real Ginny Weasley and see her for what Rowling has described as Harry's "ideal woman."

As a rule, in spite of ten-year absence from the wizarding world, he has become an extraordinarily powerful wizard for his age: with war skills unrivalled by any in his age group, due largely to Voldemort "marking him as his equal". One of Harry potter's greatest strengths is his ability to love others in spite of continuous heartache and hardship in his life.
